January 05, (THEWILL) — The Delta State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Sunday, officially welcomed a former three-time Commissioner in Delta State, Prof. Patrick Muoboghare, and his teeming supporters, following his defection from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Receiving Prof. Muoboghare and his supporters, the State Chairman of the APC, Elder Omeni Sobotie, described the defection as a commendable and strategic move that would further consolidate and accelerate the Renewed Hope for MORE Agenda of the party. He assured the new entrants of the party’s full support and seamless integration into its fold, emphasising that all party members enjoy equal opportunities and privileges.

Speaking at the defection rally held at Ohoror-Uwheru, the leader of the APC in Uwheru Ward 9, Chief (Sir) Simeon Ohwofa, congratulated Prof. Muoboghare on his decision to join the progressive family. He noted that the defection had further energised the ward and positioned it to deliver the APC in subsequent elections with an unassailable margin.

Chief Ohwofa highlighted Prof. Muoboghare’s sterling achievements as a renowned academic, respected community leader, and seasoned statesman, noting that his public service record speaks eloquently to the value he brings to the APC.

The highlight of the event was the official reception of Prof. Muoboghare and his supporters, marked by the presentation of the APC broom by the State Chairman. He was flanked by key party leaders, including Chief Simeon Ohwofa, the Member representing Ughelli North Constituency 2 in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. (Barr.) Spencer Obokpare Ohwofa, the APC Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Comr. Evwighono Onofeghare Samuel, and the APC Chairman of Uwheru Ward, Prince Efemona Gideon.

In his speech, Prof. Muoboghare stated that although the decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party was a difficult one, it was undoubtedly the best path forward. He pledged to work closely with party leaders across all levels of the APC’s leadership architecture to strengthen the party at the grassroots, promote the Renewed Hope for the MORE Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and ensure the APC’s overwhelming victory in the 2027 elections.

Among other notable members of Prof. Muoboghare’s political family who defected alongside him were Prof. Sam Ogege, Chief Edward Eyamu (Otota R’ Ode of Uwheru Kingdom), Chief Benjamin Ohworeko, Dr Iroro Goodluck Oyibokure, and several other supporters.

Welcoming Prof Patrick Muoboghare to the party, the APC chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Samuel Evwighono, described Muoboghare’s defection to the APC as strategic, which would strengthen the party ahead of future elections. He said the former commissioner’s credentials, experience and grassroots appeal would significantly improve APC’s chances in Delta Central.

He noted that the party was witnessing steady growth across the local government area with more politicians and supporters leaving rival political parties to join the APC, expressing confidence that the trend will continue in the coming weeks.
