May 06, (THEWILL) – Delta State lawmakers elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives have formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defection of the lawmakers was formally communicated in letters read at plenary of the State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives on Tuesday.
This followed the recent defection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, and the entire PDP structure in Delta State to the APC.
The 22 Assembly Members, including the Speaker, Emomotimi Guwor, said the decision was reached unanimously, citing unresolved divisions within the PDP’s South-South Zonal Executive and the worsening crisis at the party’s national level.
Similarly, six Delta lawmakers in the House of Representatives, including Nicholas Mutu (Bomadi), Nnamdi Ezechi (Ndokwa/Nkwuani), Jonathan Okodiko (Isoko), Thomas Eriyetomi (Warri), Julius Pondi (Burutu), and Victor Nwokolo (Ika North and South), in their letters read at the House plenary on Tuesday, attributed their actions to the lingering crisis in the PDP and the need to find a more conducive platform to represent their constituents.
However, two members of the Labour Party in Enugu, including Mark Obetta, the lawmaker representing Nsukka/Igboeze South Federal Constituency and Dennis Agbo, representing Igbo Eze North/Udenu, defected to the PDP.
