Governor Seriake Dickson has warned oil producing communities in Bayelsa state to desist from disrupting the operations of oil firms, describing such act as an invitation to anarchy.
He pointed out that the action of some of the communities was also capable of tarnishing the reputation of the state and sending wrong signal to international investors.
The Governor’s Special Adviser on Oil and Gas, Mr Felix Ayah, said in a statement issued in Yenagoa on Friday that the state government frowned at the incessant closures of operations of multinational oil firms by aggrieved communities.
He disclosed that the state government “heavily relies on oil revenue that accrued monthly’’ to finance its development projects hence any disruption negatively affects the economic fortunes of the state.
Ayah warned that the government would no longer tolerate such negative act from the oil communities.
He pleaded that since the activities of the Dickson administration were anchored on transparency, love and development, Bayelsa people should close ranks to preserve the existing peace in the state.
The Governor’s aide advised Bayelsa indigenes to always toe the path of peace by channelling their grievances through the appropriate government quarters for attention.
He however appealed to multinationals in the state to live up to their social responsibilities to their host communities, stressing that no meaningful development can take place in an atmosphere of rancour and acrimony.
