October 04, (THEWILL) — American rap mogul, Sean “Diddy” Combs, has been sentenced to 50 months in prison on Friday, by a U.S. court over prostitution-related offences.
The 55-year-old music executive was convicted in July for transporting individuals across state lines for prostitution. He was, however, cleared of the more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering.
Diddy, founder of Bad Boy Records, had apologised to his family and associates in an emotional statement, saying he was “humbled and broken.”
While his lawyers pleaded for leniency, citing his personal struggles, charity work, and claims of rehabilitation, prosecutors pressed for a longer jail term, describing him as “unrepentant.”
Delivering judgement, Judge Arun Subramanian of the Federal District Court in Manhattan, imposed a 50-month sentence, rejecting defence attempts to overturn the conviction..
