February 24, (THEWILL) — Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has appointed his Chief of Staff, Peter Pereotubo Akpe, as the new Deputy Governor.
The nomination was confirmed and approved by the Bayelsa State House of Assembly during its plenary session on Tuesday, ending the suspense surrounding the crucial executive position.
Akpe, a former lawmaker and ex-majority leader of the House of Assembly, hails from Edebebiri in Sagbama Local Government Area. He holds a doctorate in Educational Management and is also a pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
Governor Diri’s choice retains the deputy governorship within Sagbama and the Bayelsa West Senatorial District, the same region as the late former Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, ensuring continuity in the state’s leadership structure.
