March 19, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, has debunked reports on social media that the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) in Rivers State has been gutted by fire, following an explosion.
A statement by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd, Olufemi Soneye, urged the public and the media to disregard the report.
Soneye clarified that what occurred was a flare incident, which has since been fully contained.
“There is no danger or health hazard to staff, the surrounding communities, or the environment”, the statement said.
