January 30, (THEWILL) — Former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and received his membership card during a ceremony in Calabar on Friday, January 30, 2026.
Duke, who registered as a member in Ward 5, Calabar Municipality, has left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the second time in his political career.
He previously defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in 2018, where he served as its presidential candidate before returning to the PDP in 2021.
Following Dukes registration, ADC leaders in the Bakassi Local Government Area urged citizens of Cross River State to embrace the party as a credible platform for transformative change ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The appeal came after a stakeholders meeting involving chapter executives and ward chairmen. The party leaders also called on Nigerians to reclaim the country from the current administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a joint statement signed by Bakassi Chapter Chairman Emmanuel Asuquo and Secretary Eko Boco, the party expressed full confidence in its new national leadership.
“We invite our family and friends who are still undecided to join the ADC today, as the party is poised to bring about transformative change in Nigeria. We express our unwavering support and confidence in the leadership of Senator David Mark, National Chairman, and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, National Secretary, and pledge our loyalty to all recognised organs and structures of the party at all levels as we work towards building a strong and united ADC,” the statement read.
