
January 08, (THEWILL) – The driver of a Lagos Intra-City bus died in an early morning accident on Wednesday, following a head-on collision with a moving long truck along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Adebayo Taofiq, said the accident happened near the state secretariat inward of Otedola Bridge, Lagos State.
Adebayo added that the bus collided with a moving long truck due to brake failure resulting from excessive speeding. The severe impact of the crash left the driver of the minibus trapped within the wreckage.
He said the swift and coordinated intervention of LASTMA officers ensured the immediate rescue of other passengers, all of whom emerged unscathed.
“In a collaborative effort, LASTMA Officers, alongside Lagos State Ambulance Service personnel and the officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps, worked relentlessly to extricate the trapped driver. Regrettably, despite their commendable efforts, the driver was recovered lifeless.
“His remains were subsequently handed over to FRSC personnel by LASTMA Officers. Security operatives from the Alausa Police Division were present to provide protection throughout the duration of the rescue operations”, Adebayo said.
