April 29, (THEWILL) – The United States Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) has commended the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for its sustained efforts in combating substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking across Nigeria.
Director of INL in Nigeria, Ms. Candace Spradley, gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to the NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), at the agency’s national headquarters in Abuja on Monday, April 28, 2025. She was accompanied by her colleague, Ms. Ada Aki.
Spradley said the visit was aimed at reaffirming the U.S. government’s commitment to the global fight against narcotics, particularly opioids, and to deepen the ongoing collaboration between the NDLEA and the INL.
“Our visit is to underscore the importance of our partnership and to assure you of our readiness to support your work. If there’s any area you require assistance, we’re prepared to help,” she stated.
She assured Marwa of continued U.S. support and enhanced collaboration in tackling drug-related challenges in Nigeria.
In his remarks, Marwa reiterated the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to the fight against substance abuse and drug trafficking.
He also acknowledged the pivotal support of the INL, which he said has helped position the NDLEA as the leading anti-narcotics agency on the African continent.
While expressing appreciation for the partnership, Marwa highlighted the need for additional assistance from the U.S. and other international stakeholders to sustain the agency’s operational successes.
He listed critical areas requiring support, including operational vehicles, forensic laboratory equipment, training for forensic analysts, capacity-building in cybercrime and cryptocurrency investigations, and field drug-testing kits.
