January 31, (THEWILL) – One soldier has been confirmed dead and several others injured after a suspected drunk driver rammed his Toyota car into troops of 81 Division of the Nigerian Army during their Bi-Annual Route March near Myhoung Barracks in Yaba, Lagos State on Friday.

The route march, a training exercise designed to enhance operational readiness, involved Nigerian Army formations across Lagos State.

The Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, 81 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Ayeni who confirmed the incident, said the deceased soldier, has been deposited in the mortuary while the injured are currently receiving medical care at 68 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital Yaba, Lagos.

Ayeni said the investigation into the circumstances that led to this incident is ongoing.

The General Officer, Commanding 81 Division, Major General Farouk Mijinyawa, has called for calm.

He expressed condolences to the families of the deceased soldier while praying for the speedy recovery of those injured.
