October 29, (THEWILL) — The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a man in Oyigbo, Rivers State, for allegedly using social media to incite the military to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s government.
The suspect, identified as Innocent Chukwuma, was reportedly apprehended after posting a series of messages on the X platform (formerly Twitter) under the handle @TheAgroman, urging the armed forces to “suspend the Nigerian government” and stage a coup.
In one of the posts cited by security sources, Chukwuma allegedly wrote: “A coup in Nigeria is needed. Dispose of APC, suspend the Nigerian Government, and join the AES. That is all we need now.”
In another message, he purportedly appealed directly to Nigerians for support, writing: “It will happen eventually.
Nigerians, the military needs your support now! Only them can save this country.” He also accused the Presidency of having “basically sold this country to the West,” adding, “Only the military can reset this country. Support them.”
A source within the DSS confirmed that Chukwuma was arrested during an operation in Oyigbo and is currently cooperating with investigators.
The source, however, did not confirm whether formal charges have been filed, noting that the matter remains under active investigation.
Efforts to obtain an official comment from the DSS were unsuccessful as of press time.
Local community leaders in Oyigbo have since reacted to the development, saying they support lawful enforcement actions but urged transparency and due process in handling the case.
The arrest comes amid heightened security vigilance across the country following President Tinubu’s recent reorganisation of the armed forces and appointment of new service chiefs.
Earlier this month, the Nigerian Army confirmed that 16 officers were under investigation for “indiscipline and breach of service regulations.”
Although some media reports linked the probe to a possible coup plot, the military high command dismissed the claims, describing the investigation as a routine disciplinary process.
