BEVERLY HILLS, January 24, (THEWILL) –Â The Super Eagles of Nigeria have qualified for the quarter-final of the ongoing CHAN 2018 competition after defeating Equatorial Guinea by 3-1.
The Eagles came back from a goal down to defeat Equatorial Guinea 3-1 in Group C clash at the Stade Adrar in Agadir, Morocco.
The three goals was all the 2014 CHAN Bronze Medalists needed to scale through as Group winners with seven points after a first half scare from Nsi Eyama Salvador.
It was a rather subdued start to proceedings in Agadir after 30 minutes in which Nigeria were clearly dominant.
The Eagles, however, got a shock of their lives in the 40th minute when Salvador powered home a header from a corner-kick to give Nzalang Nacional a surprise lead which was maintained at half time.
The Eagles sustained a good spell in the second half and had their leveller shortly after as Anthony Okpotu made a clinic header that hit the back of the net from a square cross from the right side of the flank.
While Dayo Ojo scored the second goal with a long straight shot from a throwing which was cleared outside the Equitoria Guineans 18-yard box while substitute Rabiu Ali scored the third goal as he converted the goal from a spot kick at seven minutes from regulation time.
It was a deserved win for the Eagles who marched into the knockout stages alongside Libya who scored a late winner in their clash against Rwanda at the same time.
