August 18, (THEWILL) – The Executive Council Chairman of Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Mr Ikechukwu Odono, has vowed to combat all forms of attacks, insecurity and other threats to the lives of the people of the council to the barest minimum.
Odono warned hoodlums, who invaded communities of Ohaukwu Local Government Area to destroy properties worth millions of naira, that belonged to people, to desist forthwith or face the full wrath of the law.
Odono made this known during the distribution of over fifteen (15) Toyota Corolla cars and motorcycles to the councillors and security operatives, Which was held at the council headquarters, 135 Izziamgbo, on Thursday.
He applauded the state Governor, Francis Nwifuru, for his adequate cooperation with the council chairmen of the 13 LGAs of the state, which according to him, had enabled them (Chairmen) to provide a dividend of democracy to the people at the grassroots in the state.
He said, “Hoodlums have made Ohaukwu people not feel at home, but I assure you that, the one they attacked on Sunday, where they burnt two vehicles that belonged to the neighbourhood watch commander, will by the Grace, be the last attack that will happen in Ohaukwu LGA.
He further reiterated his preparedness to bring lasting peace and order in all the communities in the council: “We will bring peace and order in the council, and that we will bring to an end all attacks on the people so that our people will sleep with their two eyes closed.
“I assure you that security in Ohaukwu LGA will be tighter, and so, it’s of my greatest desire to make my councillors and security aides happy, by giving them these Toyota Corolla cars and motorcycles, so that they will do a greater job in ensuring that there total peace and order in the council”, he stated.
In a swift reaction, the Commissioner of the capital city and urban development, Mr Sunday Inyima, said that over 8 villagers were captured by a suspected terrorist, but commended the council chairman for combating insecurity in Ohaukwu LGA, especially in the Ukwagba community.
Inyima further noted that the people of the council can now sleep with their two eyes closed: “Nobody sleeps again in Ukwagba community but through the efforts of the chairman, Odono, peace and order have gradually returned in the area.”
