February 01, (THEWILL) — The Ebonyi State Security Council has imposed a daily curfew in Amasiri from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 a.m. following a violent attack that left four indigenes of the Okporojo village in Oso-Edda community beheaded.
The resolution, signed by Governor Francis Nwifuru on Saturday, January 31, 2026, comes as a decisive response to the renewed boundary clash between the Amasiri clan in Afikpo Local Government Area and the people of Edda Local Government Area.
As part of the emergency measures, the Council has ordered security agencies to recover the missing heads of the victims “at all costs.”
Governor Nwifuru expressed deep sadness over the brutality of the attack, stating, “The government of Ebonyi State will definitely show to the perpetrators what made them government and you see it happen. I promise you, the lives lost will never be in vain.”
The state government has moved to dissolve the entire political and traditional leadership structure of the Amasiri community.
This includes the removal of all government appointees from the area, the sacking of the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Professor Amari Omaka, and the withdrawal of the certificate of recognition from the traditional ruler.
Furthermore, an executive bill has been prepared for the State House of Assembly to repeal the law creating the Amasiri Development Center, effectively removing it from the state’s administrative map.
In addition to the curfew, all public and private schools in the Amasiri clan have been ordered to shut down immediately, with teachers to be redeployed to other communities.
All markets, banks, quarries, and businesses within the area are required to comply with the restricted hours.
The council has directed the chairmen of Afikpo, Ivo, Ohaozara, and Onicha Local Government Areas to take over the administration of Amasiri to ensure a total vacuum in local leadership is avoided while investigations continue.
The governor urged the people of Okporojo to remain calm and avoid retaliatory violence, assuring them that the state would no longer tolerate the violation of boundary agreements.
He warned that the situation had reached a “point of no return” and that the government would use its full power to restore order and prosecute those responsible for the killings.
