
November 29, (THEWILL) – The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ebonyi State Council, Comrade Samson Nwafor, has expressed high hope that the newly elected Chairman of the Union, Comrade Yahya Alhassan, will involve a new leadership for a formidable and united Union.
Comrade Nwafor stated this in a congratulatory statement for the new chairman who emerged winner in Thursday’s 8th triennial National Delegates’ Conference held in Owerri, Imo State.
He advised the newly elected Chairman to build on the legacies of his predecessor, even as he called on other presidential candidates who stood for the election to close ranks with him for a stronger Union.
The statement reads: “It’s with immense joy that the Ebonyi State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), wishes to profoundly congratulate you, Comrade Alhassan Yahya, on your victory as the President of NUJ at the just-concluded 8th Triennial National Delegates Conference held in Owerri in Imo State.
“Your victory did not come to us as a surprise, considering your wide acceptability amongst Journalists across the length and breadth of the Country. It’s indeed a reward for your dedication, perseverance and humility which you have undoubtedly demonstrated in serving the Union for over two decades.
“We have no doubt that through your leadership ingenuity, you are going to sustain and improve on the legacies of your predecessor, Dr Chris Isiguzo, MFR.
“We have no doubt that your leadership would work towards building a more united and formidable NUJ for the benefit of both the members and the entire Nigerian populace.
“Please, be assured of the unalloyed support and cooperation of Ebonyi Council to your leadership.
“We equally seize this opportunity to counsel other Presidential candidates to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship and close ranks with the new President for the benefit of the Union, because we are stronger together”, he admonished.
