September 04, (THEWILL) – The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, has boasted that the position of Ebonyi South Senatorial Zone still belongs to the ruling party in the State.
Stanley Okoro, who stated this in his office at the International Conference Centre (ICC) while reacting to what he termed jubilation by the opposition party, especially the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said that in a matter of days, there would be a rerun in the State.
According to him, there would only be a rerun for Ebonyi South Senatorial Zone following the resignation of Senator David Nwaeze Umahi, who was appointed Minister of Works.
He further added that those peddling the news of a rerun for the gubernatorial seat in the State were those milking the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP in the just concluded general election, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odi. He said Odi should wait for the next sixteen (16) years.
Emegha said, “Why I decided to talk is that when I was in the UK, there was jubilation that, in a matter of days, they would take over Ebonyi State Government through a rerun. Yes, there is only going to be a rerun for Ebonyi South because of the resignation of Senator Umahi after his appointment as Minister of Works.
“We are talking about showcasing our talent. They used to see Ebonyi on the low cadere. If an Ebonyi man can be qualified for such a position is a welcome development. You can not just get somebody who is not competent for the job.
“Yes, my party must file a candidate because that position belongs to APC. The party must file a credible candidate to win the election. You don’t just win an election with an unpopular candidate.
“I will crown it that the jubilation is nothing because the mandate belongs to APC. There is nothing wrong with jubilation. The man called Anyi Chuks is a novice in the business. The people milking him saw it as an avenue for making money. For lawyers, they can not tell you will not win the election. They will be milking you. Anyi Chuks should wait for the next 16 years if the God of Ebonyi favours him, he can become the governor.
“It is the judiciary that has the power to declare a seat vacant. It will be a fresh rerun because every party is expected to conduct fresh primaries. That seat is constitutional. The party will go ahead to conduct the primaries and whoever wins will fly the flag. The Governor is the leader of the party and he can decide, but purely, it is going to be an open primary.
“I believe so much in actions. Actions surpass words. I do not want to preempt the court. If Ken Eze has won, I do not see it as a surprise. Anybody thinking that he will come and reclaim our mandate, I told you these are 419ers,” he said.
