October 03, (THEWILL) — The Edo State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Agun Gbenga, has died after collapsing at a public event in Benin City.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred on Thursday shortly after he delivered a goodwill message at a programme organised by the International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA) at the Bishop Kelly Pastoral Centre.
He was rushed to the Military Hospital, where doctors confirmed him dead.
Gbenga’s sudden death comes barely two weeks after the Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Cross River State, Ogbonna Maurice Uzoma, was found lifeless in his hotel room in Calabar.
In a statement signed by the Corps Public Relations Officer, Edo Command, SC Ogbebor Efosa, the late Commandant was described as “an astute operations officer whose humility, friendliness, and intelligence earned him respect and admiration.”
“The death of Commandant Gbenga is a huge loss to the Corps, Edo State, and the nation,” the statement added.
