November 12, (THEWILL) – Outgone Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, on Tuesday expressed profound gratitude to the people of Edo State as he marked the conclusion of his eight-year tenure.
He made the appreciation in a heartfelt farewell address to the state.
Reflecting on the journey since he assumed office in 2016, Obaseki highlighted the transformative strides taken under his administration, which he described as a period of substantial reform and growth.
He said his administration focused on restructuring Edo’s institutions, modernising infrastructure, and enhancing governance structures to set the state on a sustainable path of development.
The former governor emphasised that the reforms have positioned Edo as a model state with an efficient, future-focused public service.
“We undertook a total overhaul of how government works in Edo,” he noted, underscoring the administration’s emphasis on institution-building over-reliance on powerful individuals or political influencers.
Obaseki pointed to state-of-the-art facilities, expanded road networks, and the strengthening of healthcare and educational institutions as testaments to Edo’s progress.
Additionally, he highlighted Edo’s leadership in human capital development, with civil servants recruited on merit and continuously trained to provide high-quality services for residents and investors alike.
The former governor also cited the administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare, reflected in Edo’s adoption of the highest minimum wage in Nigeria prior to the recent national adjustment.
This, he said, demonstrated his commitment to improving the lives of the state’s workforce.
Acknowledging the challenges his administration faced, Obaseki noted that a “systems reset” was essential to tackle the state’s structural issues and restore Edo’s former glory.
He credited the administration’s accomplishments to the collective effort and steadfast support of Edo’s citizens.
Obaseki, however, expressed optimism that the incoming administration will build on the foundations laid, propelling Edo State toward even greater development and prosperity.
