April 13, (THEWILL) — Nigeria has intensified efforts to strengthen its economic reform agenda and attract global investment, as the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, leads the country’s delegation to the 2026 International Monetary Fund and World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C., United States.
In a statement posted on X on Monday, the Ministry of Finance said Nigeria’s participation is to reinforce fiscal stability, deepen engagement with multilateral institutions, and improve the country’s investment outlook amid rising global economic pressures.
The engagements come at a critical time for the global economy, as countries grapple with inflationary risks, debt vulnerabilities, and tightening financial conditions.
“Wale Edun leads Nigeria’s delegation to IMF/World Bank Spring Meetings amid fresh global economic pressures”, the ministry stated.
The ministry explained that Nigeria is using the platform to advance key policy discussions with international partners and investors, with a focus on sustaining ongoing reforms and strengthening macroeconomic stability.
“Against a backdrop of intensifying global economic uncertainty, the Minister is engaging with multilateral institutions, development partners, and international investors through a series of high-level bilateral and policy discussions”, the statement said.
Officials noted that the delegation’s engagements are structured around Nigeria’s broader economic priorities, including fiscal consolidation, improved revenue mobilisation, and strengthening investor confidence in the domestic economy.
“These engagements are focused on advancing Nigeria’s reform agenda, strengthening its fiscal outlook, and reinforcing its investment case on the global stage”, the ministry added.
The Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank bring together finance ministers, central bank governors, and global economic stakeholders to address pressing international economic challenges and coordinate policy responses.
Nigeria’s participation is expected to provide opportunities for deeper discussions on financing for development, structural reforms, and private sector investment mobilisation, particularly in infrastructure, energy, and job-creating sectors.
While the meetings also present a key opportunity for Nigeria to present updates on its reform trajectory and reassure global investors following recent macroeconomic adjustments, the federal government reiterated that the engagements are part of a wider strategy to reposition Nigeria as a stable and competitive investment destination within an increasingly uncertain global financial environment.
