March 04, (THEWILL) – The immediate-past governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
THEWILL gathered that the former Governor was arrested and taken into custody shortly after he arrived at the headquarters of the anti-graft agency in Abuja on Tuesday afternoon.
He was at the EFCC headquarters to honour an invitation following a petition by Network Against Corruption and Trafficking (NCAT), a civil society organisation (CSO).
The organisation alleged that Emmanuel received N3 trillion from the Federation Account in eight years but left a debt profile of N500 billion and unpaid ongoing projects worth N300 billion. He was also alleged to be unable to account for N700 billion.
Meanwhile, the EFCC has not officially confirmed his arrest.
