EFCC Detains Yahaya Bello

Yahaya Bello

November 26, (THEWILL) – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it has taken former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, into custody.

THEWILL exclusively reported last Wednesday that the former Governor had scheduled to meet with investigators at the Abuja headquarters of the anti-graft agency over allegations of fraud.

Former governor Bello is facing a 16-count charge of money laundering offences amounting to N110,446,470,89.00. He had gone underground since a failed attempt in April by the EFCC to arrest him at his residence in Abuja.

He, however, surrendered to the anti-graft agency at its headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday. A statement by his media office said Bello was accompanied by his lawyers to the Commission’s headquarters.

Confirming the development, EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, said former governor Bello was arrested by the commission’s chief security officer.

“It is true that we have him in our custody. The operatives of the commission arrested him”, he said.
