March 24, (THEWILL) — Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have moved against properties linked to former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, raiding his residences and business premises, with two persons reportedly detained during the operation.
In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Assistant on Media, Mohammed Bello Doka, the former AGF alleged that EFCC officials, accompanied by heavily armed security personnel, forcefully invaded and took over the properties without presenting any valid or subsisting court order authorising such action.
The statement described the development as shocking, noting that the operation also involved the marking and occupation of the affected properties in what it termed a clear violation of due process.
Malami said the incident occurred shortly after a solidarity visit by former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, raising concerns about the timing and possible political undertones surrounding the EFCC’s action.
He maintained that the matter remains pending before the Federal High Court, Abuja Division, presided over by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, with no final determination or subsisting order authorising the enforcement action.
Malami further argued that an interim forfeiture order earlier secured by the EFCC on January 6, 2026, had elapsed after 14 days and could not legally justify the agency’s actions.
“The operatives failed, refused, and/or neglected to present any lawful court order when requested, thereby underscoring the illegality of their conduct,” he said.
Condemning the development, Malami described the raid as a “flagrant disregard for the rule of law” and a “gross abuse of power,” alleging that it was a calculated attempt to harass and intimidate him.
Noting the agency’s commitment to accountability and the anti-corruption fight, Malami stressed that such efforts must be conducted strictly within the ambit of the law.
He also emphasised that he would continue to cooperate with lawful judicial processes while defending his rights and reputation through appropriate legal channels.
Malami called on Nigerians and the international community to take note of the development, warning that it carries serious implications for the rule of law and democratic governance in the country.
