January 27, (THEWILL) — The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has advocated collaboration with the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists’ to tackle economic and financial crimes in Benue State.
The Acting Zonal Director, Assistant Commander of EFCC, ACE 1, Effa Imoh Okim, made the advocacy on Monday while playing host to members of the chapel on courtesy visit at the Zonal Command in Makurdi, Benue state capital.
Describing EFCC as the last hope of Nigerians, Commander Okim noted that Nigeria is not lacking in any aspect, but some political leaders hardly follow due process in the application of resources for the purpose to which it was meant in the course of duty.
“The media is highest in our mind to use in achieving our mandate of not only prosecuting, but educating members of the public on the need to ensure accountability, due process and shun corrupt practices”, Okim stated.
He pledged to work in partnership with members of the chapel in order to ensure that only timely and accurate information were passed to the public in order to know what the commission stand for in the interest of all.
The Zonal Director, therefore, commended journalists in the state for accurate reporting of the Commission’s activities, promising to ensure an open door policy at all times.
Earlier, the Correspondents Chapel chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Antswen, informed that the visit was to seek closer collaboration so as to carry out the constitutional duty as stipulated within the law.
He urged the leadership of the Commission to design a policy of fortnight briefing of it activities in order not to allow room for speculative reportage of affairs.
