June 05, (THEWILL) – The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed about 36,000 of its Regular, Special Marshals, and 750 Patrol Vehicles, 120 Ambulances, 25 Tow Truck and over 200 Bikes for safer road environment, before, during and after the Eid el-Kabir celebration in Nigeria
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, who authorised the special operations revealed that the mission was to ensure free flow of traffic, provide prompt rescue services and timely clearance of obstructions on all major roads and critical corridors across the country before, during and after the festive period.
Scheduled to commence from June 5-10, 2025, Mohammed said the Special operation also aimed at minimising the occurrence of road traffic crashes on the nation’s highways through effective patrol operations and sustained public enlightenment campaigns.
“Motorists must endeavour to avoid traffic violations and remain conscious of their safety to avoid not only arrest and prosecution by members of the Corps, but falling prey to avoidable road crashes”, Mohammed noted.
To ensure the effectiveness of the operations, Mohammed directed commanding officers operating across various formations nationwide to ensure that the 52 corridors are properly manned throughout the period of the operations. He, however, appealed to motorists to obey all traffic rules and regulations and cooperate fully with the FRSC and other law enforcement agencies that would be deployed for traffic management duties.
Mohammed stressed that Mobile Courts would be in session across the country for prompt dispensation of justice to recalcitrant traffic violators.
The Corps Marshal also directed that the operatives pay first-rate focus on effective traffic control, wrongful overtaking, use of phone while driving, drivers licence violation, lane discipline, removal of rickety vehicles on the road, driving with expired/worn out tyre and without spare tyre.
Meanwhile, as part of efforts to protect lives, property, and critical national infrastructure during and after the celebration, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed over 28,000 officers across the country.
Commandant General of the Corps, Dr Ahmed Audi, said the mobilisation includes operatives from Special Female Squad, Mining Marshals, Counter Terrorism Unit, SWAT, and others.
A statement signed by NSCDC spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, noted that the festive period often presents opportunities for criminal activity, making vigilance essential.
While addressing top officers during a strategic security meeting, Audi stressed the need for better intelligence gathering through direct community engagement.
“No single agency has a monopoly on tackling insecurity”, he said, urging all 36 state commandants and the FCT to work closely with other security bodies and local residents.
“We also call on members of the public to support this course of action so that together we can attain the goal of effective security coverage across board”, he said.
The Commandant General also called on private security firms to assist by sharing timely intelligence and strengthening communication networks, especially during emergencies.
