March 27, (THEWILL) — Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, mother of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has passed away, with her family paying glowing tribute to a life defined by faith, strength, and devotion.

The news of her death was announced on Friday by her grandson in a heartfelt message shared on Facebook, where he expressed both grief and gratitude for the life she lived.

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. From Allah SWT we came and to Him we shall all return. I would like to inform the public of the demise of my Grandmother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai who passed away a few hours ago,” he wrote.

Describing the late matriarch as a pillar of the family, he noted that she was the biological mother of Nasir El-Rufai and a source of guidance and inspiration to many within and beyond her immediate circle.

“We are grateful for the life she lived and may Allah SWT bless her gentle soul. May He bless the souls of the parents we have lost. On behalf of our family, we seek your prayers. Thank you,” he added.

Though details surrounding her death were not immediately available as of press time, family members and associates have continued to reflect on her enduring legacy, characterised by humility, compassion, and unwavering commitment to family values.

Burial arrangements are expected to be announced in line with Islamic traditions.

The development comes amid ongoing legal proceedings involving her son, Nasir El-Rufai, who is currently in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission following his re-arrest after an earlier detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in February.
