December 05, (THEWILL) – The lawmaker representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Bello El-Rufai, has denied reports that operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) raided his residence in Kaduna, and uncovered large sums of money in various currencies.
According to reports (not by THEWILL), operatives of the anti-graft agency uncovered a total of $800 million, N700 billion in cash, and N1 trillion worth of drugs during the raid on the residence.
Bello, who is the eldest son of the immediate-past governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Ruf, labelled the reports as “false” and a deliberate attempt to damage his credibility.
In a statement, Bello clarified that he does not own a residence in Kaduna but resides in his family home in Unguwar Sarki, which he has lived in since birth. He further stated that these unfounded allegations were designed to mislead the public, tarnish his reputation, and create confusion.
“My constituents know what would happen if I had such sums. To those behind these baseless attacks, I assure you we will continue to serve the people of Kaduna North, adding value through honest representation”, he stated.
Bello explained that the image circulating online had originally been published by Vanguard in April 2017. He, therefore, vowed to take legal action against some media outlets, promising that any financial compensation would be used for the benefit of Kaduna North.
