May 07, (THEWILL) — Three members of the House of Representatives, including Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency and son of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, have announced their exit from their respective political parties to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a statement issued on Thursday and shared via his official X handle, Mohammed Bello El-Rufai confirmed his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his decision to continue his legislative journey under the platform of the African Democratic Congress.
He also disclosed his intention to seek re-election to the House of Representatives on the ADC platform.
According to him, the decision was taken after careful consideration and a conviction to pursue what he described as more people-focused representation for his constituents.
The lawmaker said the move was also in alignment with other federal legislators who have joined him in the ADC, including Hon. Engr. Suleiman Richifa, representing Soba Federal Constituency of Kaduna State, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Hon. Umar Ajilo, representing Makarfi/Kudan Federal Constituency, who also left the PDP to join the ADC.
He stated that the collective move represents a shared commitment to building a political platform anchored on service delivery and grassroots development.
El-Rufai wrote that the decision, though difficult, was guided by conviction and a desire to better serve constituents, stressing that legislative work and constituency engagement would continue without interruption.
He reaffirmed his commitment to quality representation for the people of Kaduna North.
Also part of the broader movement is Abdulhakeem Ado from Kano State, who moved from the ADC to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), further reflecting a wave of party adjustments among lawmakers across different constituencies.
The development was formally announced during plenary by Reps Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, who acknowledged receipt of the resignation notice and the lawmakers’ new party affiliations.
For Mohammed Bello El-Rufai and his colleagues, the move to the ADC marks the beginning of a new political chapter as they prepare for renewed contests in 2027, with promises of sustained engagement and stronger representation for their constituencies.
