July 25, (THEWILL) — The Emir of Gusau in Zamfara State, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Bello (Sarkin Katsinan Gusau), has died at the age of 71.
A statement by Sulaiman Idris, spokesperson to Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, confirmed that the monarch passed away in the early hours of Friday at a medical facility in Abuja after a prolonged illness.
Governor Lawal, in a condolence message, described the Emir’s death as a personal loss, referring to him as a dependable royal father and a respected leader who worked tirelessly for the welfare of the state.
“I received with profound sadness the news of the passing of our father, His Royal Highness, Dr Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Zamfara State Council of Chiefs, the Emir’s family, the Gusau Emirate, and the people of the state,” the governor said.
He praised the Emir’s decade-long reign, describing it as one of unwavering commitment, visionary leadership, and spiritual guidance.
“His passing is a tremendous loss, not only to Zamfara but to Northern Nigeria and the country at large. I have lost a father and a trusted advisor whose wisdom and counsel were invaluable. May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdaus,” Lawal added.
Dr Bello was appointed the 15th Emir of Gusau on March 16, 2015, by then Governor Abdulaziz Yari. He succeeded his brother, Alhaji Muhammad Kabiru Danbaba, who died at a private hospital in Abuja on March 5, 2015.
Before ascending the throne, the late Emir had a distinguished career in the civil service, rising to the rank of Permanent Secretary in the former Sokoto State and later in Zamfara.
