October 14, (THEWILL) — Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor announced his defection on Tuesday during a live broadcast at the Government House, Enugu, in the presence of top APC leaders, including current and former governors, National Assembly members, and party executives from across the country.
In his address, Governor Mbah described the decision as one borne out of reflection, gratitude, and renewal, noting that leadership sometimes requires taking difficult steps in pursuit of greater goals.
He expressed appreciation to the PDP for the platform that brought him to office in 2023 but said it was time to move in a new direction.
“Today, after a long period of reflection, we have decided to leave the PDP and join the APC,” Mbah declared, as he joined supporters in singing the party’s anthem, On Your Mandate We Stand.
The governor explained that the defection was a collective decision involving members of the National Assembly, the State House of Assembly, the State Executive Council, councillors, and over 80 percent of the former PDP structure in Enugu State.
According to him, the move followed years of introspection and a desire to align Enugu with a political platform that values regional interests and supports the state’s development vision.
Mbah commended President Bola Tinubu for his leadership and reform initiatives, describing him as “a partner in progress” whose policies align with Enugu’s transformation agenda.
He assured residents that the defection would not derail ongoing development projects but would instead strengthen the state’s voice and influence at the national level.
The event climaxed with Governor Mbah completing his APC membership registration and receiving his party card, marking what he described as “a new chapter of unity, development, and growth” for Enugu State.
