July 19, (THEWILL) – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has closed its defence without presenting a witness in the petition filed by Chijioke Edeoga, the governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP), in the March 18 gubernatorial election in Enugu State.

Barr Edeoga is challenging the results INEC declared in favour of Gov Peter Mbah of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Commission had on Tuesday, prayed the Enugu Governorship Election Petition Tribunal to adjourn until Wednesday, July 19, to enable it defend allegations of malpractices levelled against it by the Labour Party (LP) and its guber candidate in the polls.

At the resumption of court proceedings on Wednesday, INEC counsel, H. Okoli, told the election tribunal that, “We have reviewed the case and decided we cannot present any witness.”
