
At the end of the last weekday of trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 171,109,870 shares in 3,599 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 2,343,568,438.20, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, January 26), Friday’s data shows 22% improvement in volume, 16% improvement in turnover, and 1% improvement in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 28.7 trillion.
In the aggregate, 111 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 24 gainers and 11 losers. CAP led the gainers with 9.83% share price appreciation closing at NGN 19.55 per share, followed by Northern Nigeria Flour Mills (+9.76%), Japaul Gold and Ventures (+9.68%) and Tripple Gee & Co. (+9.38%). On the losing side, Cutix came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 8.11% at NGN 2.04 per share, followed by International Breweries (-6.12%), Glaxo Smithkline Consumer (-4.41%) and Access Holdings (-4.26%). Fidelity Bank recorded the highest volume of 26.6 million traded shares, followed by Chams (17.8m), FBN Holdings (15.1m) and Japaul Gold and Ventures (9.07m).
Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 95.08 (-0.18%) points to close at 52,657.88, representing a 1-week gain of 0.12%, a 4-week gain of 4.69%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 2.74%.
