July 17, (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu on Thursday presided over a special session of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja, in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The solemn gathering was part of a series of official activities organised to celebrate the life and legacy of the former Nigerian leader, who died on July 13, 2025, in London.
The session provided a reflective platform for cabinet members, top government officials, and close associates to pay tribute to Buhari’s decades of public service and enduring impact on Nigeria.
In attendance were Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, serving ministers, presidential aides, and key members of the Tinubu administration.
Paying tribute to his predecessor, President Tinubu described Buhari as “a good man, an honourable man, and a decent man.”
Tinubu said, “President Muhammadu Buhari was respectful without pretence to his peers. He was kind to those who served under him.
“Even in death, he maintained the serenity that defined him in life. His patriotism was lived more in action than in words.”
Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s military Head of State from 1984 to 1985 and later as civilian President from 2015 to 2023, was laid to rest on Tuesday in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, according to Islamic rites.
