June 10, (THEWILL) –Â A former Deputy Country Representative, Nigeria, of Deutsch e-Bank, Mrs Adeola Azeez, has emerged the winner of the Ijebu Central Federal Constituency primary election on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ogun State, ahead the 2023 elections.
The constituency consists of Ijebu-Ode, Odogbolu and Ijebu North-East
Azeez emerged the winner of the primary held on May 26, 2022, at Sweet Sensation, Abeokuta, after polling 180 votes unopposed.
She was declared winner in the presence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials by the party’s Chairman Electoral Committee, Isah Adamu Aji, who said Azeez scored 180 delegate votes transparently without being opposed.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after being declared the winner of the primary, the ex-banker attributed her victory to the grace of God, calling on party’s members to work with her for the party to win the constituency seat in 2023 election.
The daughter of Yoruba elder Statesman, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, who expressed confident of victory, said that she would defeat the candidates of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) and the All Progressive Congress (APC) as well as others contesting the seat with her.
She, however, promised the people good healthcare system, roads and quality education, and also work with international organisations to help fund the projects, if elected their representative for Ijebu central federal constituency.
“I feel excited, delighted and I give glory to God Almighty for letting me emerge the way I did because you know being a first time in politics, it is a rough terrain and Ogun State politics, it is very tough, so my emergence, I was not calling it easy, but it was by the grace of God. The exercise was free, fair and transparent, it was open and everybody saw what we are doing because it wasn’t just my primary that occurred because they had done the House of Assembly before House of representatives and there were number of contestants for that and I watched it from the beginning to the end.”
“It was very open the returning officers the INEC officers, everybody was there to see how that whole process occurred. I am super confident of victory, but there is a lot of work to do at the grassroot level because I have strong candidates from the opposition, both the PDP and the APC, but I want them to know that I will be a refreshing different because I will be the only woman contesting for that seat and I have a lot to bring to the table and I hope the people within that constituency that I am a different person coming to make sure that the impact that the constituency want to feel will be actually felt and I will walk the talk”
“There are a lot of things that are on the table. One of the first thing that I have seen is the healthcare system, which is nowhere near what you would say that even if you have a headache is where you should go to, you know the healthcare system will be tackled, the road infrastructure into the communities is a key factor, the road network to even access to the farmland is not in existence, this is going to be one of the focus that I will work on. There is going to be a lot of medical outreaches, the Omu hospital used to be the pride of Ogun State, right now is a shell, I am already working on the Ogbo maternity, I am also working with international organisations who have community funding to come and help us build some of these infrastructure or help us refurbish them to standards that are usable for my community and also education, I think the infrastructure of education needs to be upgraded”, Azeez added’
