September 11, (THEWILL) — Residents of Ilisan, Ilara, Akaka, and Ode-Remo communities in Ikenne and Remo North Local Government Areas of Ogun State are set to experience relief as construction on the Ilisan-Ilara-Akaka-Ode-Remo road nears completion.
The 12-kilometre road, awarded to Still Earth Construction and Realty Ltd by the state government, has recorded significant progress.
A one-kilometre stretch of drainage and earthworks has been completed at the Akaka end in preparation for stone base and asphalt work, while asphalt overlay has already been laid from Ode-Remo through Akaka, Ilara, and Ilisan.
Speaking during an inspection tour, the Regent of Akaka, Engr. Bola Awoderu, said the community had suffered neglect for years until the intervention of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration.
“The bad condition of this road put our community in the background. People could not bring farm produce to town, markets died, and Akaka was almost going into extinction.
“Today, with this reconstruction, we are beginning to see life again,” Awoderu said.
He added that the road would also link the community to the International Airport and complement another World Bank-assisted RAMP project opening farm access routes.
The Regent also commended the governor for approving a satellite campus of Gateway Polytechnic, Saapade, for the town.
The Chairman of the Akaka Development Council, Hon. Yemi Sobambo, described the projects as a catalyst for unprecedented development in Remoland, while a resident, Evang. Jacob Ayanwale Taiwo, thanked the governor for fulfilling his campaign promise and facilitating the RAMP project.
