March 03, (THEWILL) – The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has temporarily closed Runway 18R/36L at Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, to facilitate essential rehabilitation work.
In a statement issued on Monday, FAAN disclosed that the closure, which commenced at 03:00 hours on March 3, 2025, will last until 23:59 hours on March 4, 2025.
The authority explained that the rehabilitation focuses on the asphalt phase of the A2 Taxiway-link to ensure the runway remains in optimal condition.
According to the statement, signed by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, the move is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the safety and efficiency of flight operations at Nigeria’s busiest airport.
“This temporary closure is necessary to maintain our infrastructure at the highest standards. We assure all stakeholders that the measure will not disrupt flight schedules, as all operations will be redirected to the alternate runway, 18L/36R,” FAAN stated.
The authority further reiterated its commitment to safety, security, and passenger comfort, urging airlines and travelers to take note of the development and comply with all operational adjustments during the period.
