FCCPC - Multichoice

February 27, (THEWILL) – The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has directed MultiChoice Nigeria to halt its planned subscription price increase pending the conclusion of an ongoing investigation into the matter.

In a statement issued on Thursday, FCCPC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Ondaje Ijagwu, explained that the directive followed MultiChoice Nigeria’s request for an extension regarding its scheduled appearance before the Commission.

“While the FCCPC has granted the request, the company is now required to attend the rescheduled investigative hearing on March 6, 2025, with all relevant officers and a comprehensive response,” the statement read.

The commission further emphasized that MultiChoice must maintain its current pricing structure as of February 27, 2025, until the investigation is concluded.

“Maintaining the status quo on pricing is essential to prevent any potential consumer harm during this period,” the FCCPC noted, adding that further updates would be provided as the probe progresses.

MultiChoice Nigeria had announced on Monday that new tariffs for DStv and GOtv packages would take effect from March 1.

Under the revised pricing structure, DStv Compact will cost ₦19,000, Compact Plus ₦30,000, and the Premium package ₦44,500. On the GOtv platform, Supa will now go for ₦16,800, Supa+ ₦11,400, Max ₦8,500, and Jinja ₦3,900.

The pay-TV operator, however, stated that subscribers who renew their packages before expiration would be exempt from the new rates for a limited period as part of a loyalty incentive.

It also encouraged users to take advantage of additional benefits through the ongoing Step-Up offer, which runs until March 31.
