December 19, (THEWILL) — The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Friday approved the 2026 Appropriation Bill, clearing the path for its formal presentation to a joint session of the National Assembly.
The decision was reached during an emergency meeting of the Council, presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja.
Confirming the development, the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, stated that the document is now ready for legislative scrutiny.
“The Federal Executive Council has approved the 2026 Budget and it is now ready for presentation to the joint session of the National Assembly, this afternoon by the President, Commander-in-Chief, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,” the statement read.
THEWILL reports that the emergency session followed a formal notification sent by the President to the leadership of the National Assembly.
In the communication, the President expressed his intention to present the fiscal estimates at 2:00 p.m. today, Friday, December 19, 2025, in accordance with his constitutional mandate.
Earlier, while opening the Council meeting, Vice President Kashim Shettima emphasized the importance of the session, noting that it was convened to secure the final “stamp of approval” on the budget proposals before they are transmitted to the legislature.
