February 15, (THEWILL) – The federal government says it is considering the approval for state police, to curb the rising insecurity in the country.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this to State House correspondents on Thursday, after a meeting between President Bola Tinubu and State governors, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
According to the Minister, the possibility of creating a state police structure will, however, be further discussed.
Idris said a lot of work needed to be done, and the President and State governors have agreed on working out the modalities on the idea.
THEWILL reports that President Tinubu, on Thursday, in Abuja, met with governors of the thirty six states and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FTC), Nyesom Wike, at the Council Chambers of the State House, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Vice President Kashim Shettima and Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, also attended the meeting.
Governors at the meeting included those of Ekiti, Delta, Borno, Lagos, Kwara, Nasarawa, Edo, Yobe, Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Abia, Plateau, Kaduna, Sokoto, Niger, Taraba, Adamawa, Cross River, Ogun and Enugu States.
The meeting discussed among others, the rising cost of food items, insecurity and the current economic hardship in the country.
