January 15, (THEWILL) — The Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Taiwo Oyedele, has denied reports claiming that the Federal Government suspended the issuance of implementation guidelines for the newly enacted tax laws.
A media report had alleged that the government halted the release of the guidelines, quoting Oyedele as directing the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) and the Joint Revenue Board to pause action due to uncertainty over the final versions of the laws.
The report claimed these comments were made on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, in Lagos, after Oyedele delivered a keynote address at the 2026 Economic Outlook event organized by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
Reacting on Thursday, January 15, 2026, via his verified X handle, Oyedele shared a screenshot of the report and stamped it with “Fake News,” dismissing the claim as false.
While he acknowledged at the ICAN event that there were ongoing efforts to authenticate the definitive versions of the laws—following claims of discrepancies between the executive and legislative versions—he maintained that implementation remains on course.
“The Acts Authentication Act says whatever the Government Printer publishes is the evidence of the law that was passed,” Oyedele noted during the session.
He explained that while the National Assembly is currently reviewing the gazetted copies to ensure they reflect the harmonized bills passed by both chambers, the January 1, 2026, effective date for the reforms remains sacrosanct.
He further clarified that his team is working closely with the National Assembly and the Government Printer to resolve the documentation dispute.
