September 02, (THEWILL) — The Federal Government, on Tuesday, stated that the December deadline for the implementation of the Electronic Records and Archiving System (ERAS) in all government ministries and agencies remains sacrosanct.
The Head of Service of the Federation, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, and the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, disclosed this at the flag-off of the Ministry Content Management System in Abuja.
The Electronic Records and Archiving System is a digital platform created to promote paperless governance, enhance transparency and accountability, and improve service delivery within the Ministry of Interior.
The Head of Service of the Federation, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, disclosed that the Ministry of Interior has become the 18th Ministry to go live on the ECM platform, adding that there is no going back on the Initiative geared towards ensuring optimisation in the Country’s Civil Service.
On his part, Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, emphasised the need for technology to play its role in governance.
“Technology will never replace human capacity, but it will enhance it and make us more efficient”, he said.
The Minister, who stated that the Citizenship and Business Department of the Ministry is now fully automated, said applications for citizenship, business permits, or even marriage licences can now be done online.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, emphasised the commitment to ensuring ERAS becomes a reality.
High point of the occasion was the flag off of the Electronic Records and Archiving System and the commissioning of the Ministry’s ICT room.
