June 04, (THEWILL) – The Federal Government has warned all public universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education against establishing satellite campuses without ministerial approval.
The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, read the riot act on Wednesday, in a memo addressed to the Executive Secretaries of the National Universities Commission (NUC), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE).
Dated May 30, 2025, Alausa raised concerns about the increasing number of satellite campuses being set up without regulatory oversight.
“Many of these newly created Satellite campuses lack the necessary academic, strategic, and infrastructural backing to justify their existence. Rather than focusing on improving existing campuses, some Vice Chancellors, Rectors and Provosts are diverting limited resources to set up inadequately equipped new Satellite campuses, which is counterproductive and detrimental to educational standards”, he said.
Alausa directed the three regulatory agencies to immediately inform all federal tertiary institutions under their supervision that no satellite campus should be established without express ministerial approval.
“Failure to comply with this directive will not be treated lightly and will attract appropriate disciplinary measures”, he warned.
