May 22, (THEWILL) — The Federal Government has partnered with global online learning platform Coursera to launch the Digital Training Academy (DTA), an initiative aimed at equipping 36,000 Nigerian youths with globally recognised digital certifications in emerging technology fields.
The programme was announced by the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, during engagements at the Education World Forum 2026.
According to the minister, the initiative is part of the Federal Government’s strategy to expand digital education and prepare young Nigerians for opportunities in the global technology economy.
Participants will receive training in high-demand areas including Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing, and Software Engineering.
Alausa described the partnership as a major step toward building globally competitive digital talent in Nigeria.
“To strengthen implementation, the Federal Government has fully funded 36,000 training licences across Coursera and Pluralsight for the first year of the programme,” he said.
The initiative will be implemented in collaboration with the National Open University of Nigeria and Yaba College of Technology, which are expected to support mentorship, access, and industry-focused learning nationwide.
Beneficiaries will earn internationally recognised certifications aimed at improving employability and increasing Nigeria’s participation in the rapidly expanding global digital workforce.
Analysts note that the programme reflects growing efforts by governments and institutions to bridge digital skills gaps as demand for AI and cybersecurity professionals continues to rise globally.
