May 22, (THEWILL) — President Donald Trump attacked Stephen Colbert after his final episode of “The Late Show” on CBS, posting a scathing message on his Truth Social account early Friday, May 22, 2026.
“Colbert is finally finished at CBS. Amazing that he lasted so long! No talent, no ratings, no life. He was like a dead person. You could take any person off the street and they would be better than this total jerk. Thank goodness he’s finally gone!” Trump wrote.
The feud between Colbert and Trump is long-standing. Colbert often joked about Trump during his 11 years hosting “The Late Show.”
When CBS announced the show’s cancellation last July, Trump celebrated, saying he “absolutely loved that Colbert got fired.” Colbert responded on his final show with a curse word directed at the president.
CBS said the cancellation was “purely a financial decision,” citing high production costs and declining ad revenue.
Critics questioned the timing, noting that Colbert’s jokes about Paramount Global’s $16 million settlement with Trump came while the company was seeking FCC approval for a merger with Skydance Media.
The final episode featured Paul McCartney performing “Hello, Goodbye,” along with Ryan Reynolds, Bryan Cranston, and Paul Rudd.
CBS will replace Colbert’s 11:35 p.m. slot with “Comics Unleashed”, a comedy show with no political content.
