January 05, (THEWILL) — The Federal Government has reiterated its full support for the advancement of Nigeria’s gas development agenda.

This was the outcome of a meeting between the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Engr. Saidu A. Mohammed, and the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperipe Ekpo.

The meeting, which was held in Abuja, focused on strengthening collaboration between the Ministry and the Authority to accelerate the development of the gas sector in line with the Federal Government’s energy transition and economic diversification objectives.

During the engagement, Ekpo congratulated Engr. Mohammed, on his appointment as Chief Executive of the Authority, assured him of the government’s commitment to supporting the Authority’s programmes and initiatives. He stressed that gas remains central to Nigeria’s strategy for achieving energy security, boosting industrial growth, and providing cleaner and more affordable energy for households and industries.

In his response, Engr. Mohammed expressed gratitude to the Minister for the support and confidence reposed in him. He reaffirmed that under his leadership, the Authority would continue to drive gas development projects across the country, while ensuring effective regulation, stakeholder engagement, and sustainable growth in the sector.

He noted that enhanced collaboration with key stakeholders would be prioritised to unlock the full potential of Nigeria’s gas resources and attract increased investment into the industry.

The meeting further underscored the Federal Government’s determination to create an enabling environment for the growth of the gas sector, as part of broader efforts to strengthen national energy security and promote long-term economic development.
