January 12, (THEWILL) — The Federal Government has released details of its proposed 2026 budget allocations to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), with the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Works, and the Ministry of Defence emerging as the biggest beneficiaries.
According to figures from the Budget Office of the Federation, the allocations reflect the administration’s priorities in economic management, infrastructure development, national security, human capital development, and social welfare, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Ministry of Finance tops the list with a proposed allocation of ₦16.78 trillion, followed by the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning with ₦9.10 trillion, while the Ministry of Works received ₦3.49 trillion, underscoring the government’s continued emphasis on fiscal coordination and infrastructure renewal.
Security-related agencies also featured prominently, with the Ministry of Defence allocated ₦3.15 trillion, the Ministry of Police Affairs ₦1.33 trillion, and the Office of the National Security Adviser receiving ₦664.12 billion, reflecting sustained efforts to tackle insecurity across the country.
In the social sector, the Ministry of Education was allocated ₦2.40 trillion, while the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare received ₦2.15 trillion, highlighting government commitments to improving human capital outcomes. Agriculture and food security also received significant attention, with ₦1.45 trillion earmarked for the sector.
Other notable allocations include ₦1.35 trillion for the Ministry of Niger Delta, ₦1.11 trillion for the Ministry of Power, and ₦1.01 trillion for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
At the lower end of the allocation table are regulatory and oversight bodies, including the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (₦1.99 billion), Code of Conduct Tribunal (₦2.37 billion), Police Service Commission (₦2.39 billion), and the Federal Civil Service Commission (₦2.60 billion).
The Budget Office said the descending allocation structure provides a comprehensive overview of funding distribution across key sectors for the 2026 fiscal year and demonstrates the government’s commitment to fiscal discipline, prudent resource management, and effective service delivery.
