April 09, (THEWILL) — Fidelity Bank Plc has reinforced its commitment to gender inclusion and strong corporate governance with the appointment of Mrs Amaka Onwughalu as Chairman of its Board of Directors, effective January 1, 2026.
Her emergence comes at a pivotal time for the bank as it consolidates key achievements in capital strengthening, international expansion, and sustained growth. Under the outgoing board, Fidelity Bank successfully repaid its Eurobond, recorded an oversubscribed public offer and rights issue, and expanded into the United Kingdom, moves that boosted investor confidence and performance.
The bank also delivered impressive results in the recapitalisation drive, notably raising over ₦259 billion in a landmark private placement completed within a single day, pushing its capital base beyond the ₦500 billion threshold required for international banks.
Mrs Onwughalu brings over three decades of banking experience, including more than ten years in executive leadership across commercial and retail banking, treasury, operations, and corporate banking. She previously served as Group Managing Director of Mainstreet Bank Limited, where she led its successful integration with Skye Bank Plc, and later as Deputy Managing Director until her retirement in 2016.
Currently, the Chief Executive Officer of Blueshield Financial Services Limited, she combines deep industry expertise with strong academic credentials and global executive training.
Renowned for her values-driven leadership and advocacy for women in business, her appointment signals a forward-looking approach as Fidelity Bank continues to strengthen governance and accelerate its long-term growth strategy.
