August 3, (THEWILL) — FirstHoldCo Plc has become the first Nigerian banking group to cross a market value of N6 trillion, setting a new milestone for Nigeria’s banking industry as investors continue to pour money into the company’s shares.
The group reached the landmark during Monday’s trading session after its share price climbed to N136.50, lifting its market capitalisation to about N6.21 trillion based on its roughly 45.48 billion outstanding shares.
Just under two weeks ago, FirstHoldCo was celebrating its first appearance in the N5 trillion club. Since then, buying pressure has barely eased.
In less than a fortnight, investors added another N1 trillion to the company’s value, extending one of the fastest rallies seen on the Nigerian Exchange this year.
So far in 2026, the stock has gained 184.97 per cent, while its rise since the end of June now stands at 143.53 per cent.
Few large-cap stocks on the exchange have delivered returns on that scale over such a short period.
Much of that momentum followed the release of the group’s half-year financial results, which showed another round of strong earnings growth.
The numbers reinforced the view among many investors that Nigerian banks are entering a stronger phase, supported by higher interest income, improved profitability and ongoing efforts to strengthen capital ahead of new regulatory requirements.
Investor confidence has also been helped by the wider recovery in banking stocks.
Since the beginning of the year, institutional investors have steadily increased their exposure to lenders with strong balance sheets, consistent earnings and clear capital-raising plans, making the sector one of the strongest performers on the Nigerian Exchange.
For FirstHoldCo, the latest record reflects a remarkable turnaround.
The group, whose businesses span commercial banking, merchant banking, asset management and insurance, has spent years rebuilding its position after a challenging period in its history.
That work is now being reflected not only in its financial performance but also in the way the market values the company.
Reaching a N6 trillion market capitalisation does not change the company’s operations overnight, but it does send a strong signal about investor expectations.
Market value reflects what shareholders believe a company is worth today and what they expect it can deliver in the future. In FirstHoldCo’s case, those expectations have continued to rise with every earnings release.
The milestone also raises the bar for Nigeria’s banking industry.
Crossing the N6 trillion mark was once difficult to imagine for a listed bank, but the rapid appreciation in FirstHoldCo’s share price shows how quickly market leadership can change when earnings, investor confidence, and sustained demand move in the same direction.
Attention will now turn to whether the group can sustain the momentum in the months ahead. Investors will be watching its next set of financial results, dividend outlook and progress on capital plans.
For now, FirstHoldCo has secured a place in the market’s history books as the first Nigerian banking group to achieve a valuation of more than N6 trillion.
