October 30, (THEWILL) — The wave of defections rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has intensified, as five of its members in the House of Representatives on Thursday defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
A member of the Labour Party (LP) from Plateau State also joined the APC, further strengthening the ruling party’s majority in the lower chamber.
Those who defected include Daniel Asama Ado (Plateau); Chidi Mark Obetta (Enugu); Phillips Anayo Owuegbu (Enugu); Nnaji Nnolim (Enugu); Denis Agbo (Enugu); and Matthew Nwogu (Imo).
In separate letters read on the floor of the House by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, the lawmakers attributed their defection to persistent crises and internal divisions within their former parties.
With the latest defections, the APC now has 242 members in the House of Representatives, while the PDP’s strength has dropped to 74.
