SEN. PHILIP TANIMU ADUDA

March 17, (THEWILL) — Former Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Philip Tanimu Aduda, has announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), following a high-level meeting with the party’s National Chairman, Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, in Abuja.

Aduda, a former Senate Minority Leader and one of the most prominent PDP figures in the FCT, was accompanied during the meeting by the newly elected chairmen of Bwari, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), and Kuje Area Councils, signalling a broader political realignment at the grassroots level in the territory.

The development comes shortly after the former lawmaker formally resigned from the PDP, citing persistent internal crises and divisions within the party as the primary reason for his exit.

“I write to formally notify you of my resignation… with immediate effect due to the crisis in the party”, Aduda had stated in his resignation letter addressed to his ward leadership.

His defection marks a significant boost for the APC in the FCT, where the PDP has historically maintained a strong foothold.

Aduda’s long political career spans over a decade in the National Assembly, having served multiple terms in both the House of Representatives and the Senate, where he rose to become Minority Leader.

His switch to the ruling APC is seen as part of a broader trend of political recalibration across the country, as politicians reposition themselves amid ongoing shifts within major parties.

With the backing of key area council leaders, Aduda’s entry into the APC is expected to further strengthen the party’s structure in the FCT and potentially trigger more defections in the coming months.
