
January 13, (THEWILL) — Former Ogun State First Lady, Chief (Mrs) Lucia Onabowale Onabanjo, wife of the late first civilian governor of the state, Chief Olabisi Onabanjo, has died at the age of 100.
The family of the late former governor announced her passing in a brief statement released on Tuesday, and made available to THEWILL, stating that she passed on peacefully on Monday, January 12.
“With deep regret but with gratitude to Almighty God, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Chief (Mrs) Lucia Onabowale Onabanjo (1925–2026), who was called to glory on Monday, 12th January”, the statement read.
The family thanked God for her fulfilled life and the legacy of love, strength and unwavering faith she leaves behind, while praying for the peaceful repose of her soul.
Chief (Mrs) Onabanjo was married to the late Chief Olabisi Onabanjo, the first civilian governor of Ogun State, who served during Nigeria’s Second Republic between October 1979 and December 1983.
Funeral arrangements, according to the family, will be announced in due course.
